Bret and I were greeters at church this weekend. Saturday night there were a few adults with special needs who came through the doors we were stationed at. Here is how the conversation went ...
Me: "Hi. How are you?"
Gentleman:"Hi. Give me one of those (speaking of the programs I was holding in my hands). Thank you and you look very pretty tonight."
Me: "Thank you. You look very handsome tonight."
Lady: "What did you say to him???????" (extra question marks mean extra sassiness)
Me: "I just told him that he looks handsome tonight."
Lady: "Well look at his ring. He is my boyfriend and we are getting married so don't tell him that."
Me: Standing there in awkward silence ... not really sure what to say ...
At this point another adult from their group came up and showed them to their seats. Lesson learned: be careful who you compliment :)
