It was Monday ... I was at school ... Every Monday we get out of school early for professional development ... Which means a short day at school ...
Students: " Mrs. Euken, when do we get to play?"
Me: "We don't have time to play on Mondays"
As those words rolled off my tongue, I could not believe I actually said them. Gross ... kids need time to play, plain and simple. So I am debating whether to give up some math time or reading time so my students get to play every day of the week ...
Kindergarten: a place to learn through play ... EVERY DAY

Can I just say that I agree!?! :) The school district that I work at now is so strict with SO MUCH. We have no free play time and only one 20 minute recess. :( I agree. Children learn through play.
Hey! I read something similar to that but will soon have some time to read the article you mentioned. I read (Tutoring Tots, Kids Prep for Kindergarten). It is incredibly frustrating to me! I'm definitely learning though1 :) Hope the beginning of your year is going well, even in light of the sad news for the little girl in your class.. Will be praying!
