The Euken's ... Life as we know it!

December 28, 2009

Dear Atlantic,

First of all, Merry Christmas! Thank you for letting us arrive safely on Tuesday night, despite the fog, freezing rain, and insane amounts of people driving on Interstate 80.

Thank you for all the pretty ice on the trees, bushes, sidewalks, streets, and power lines.

Thank you for the local weathermen who told us not to attempt driving on Christmas Eve because the roads were so treacherous ... even though we were listening to the broadcast in the car :) Sorry that we had to miss Christmas Eve church services.

Thank you for Snuggies! Especially Iowa State ones :)

Thank you for the Home Alone marathon ... not sure which television station to thank for that one. And a HUGE thank you to the generator! On Thursday night the lights began to flicker on and off due to the ice on the power lines and high winds. Around 8pm the lights went off ... for the 45th time. We waited for them to come back on, but they didn't. So Randy and Bret went outside to plug the generator into a tractor, and then we had power, heat, running water, and Home Alone back on :)

Thank you for the 14 inches of snow and 5 foot snow drifts due to the constant 35 mph winds. It made for wonderful sledding time with the cousins!

And last of all, thank you Randy for moving the snow so that we could drive up to Minneapolis to spend time with the White family.

Sincerely,
Bret and Katie Euken

P.S. The Euken's are still with out power at this time, so if you could turn it back on that would be great!

Wow...heard on the radio this morning that Atlantic set the overnight record low for the state. Some arcticly ridiculous temperature. Glad you guys had a safe and fun visit there in spite of the weather and need for generators!
