The kids had homework for the letter W last week. Their homework was to:
-count how many windows they have in their house and write a sentence telling us how many there were
or
-draw a picture or write a sentence of 3 wishes you have
While most kids were wishing for things like a new bike, a unicorn, or for Spiderman to come and live at their house, one little girl had only one wish ... that her mom was alive again.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she said it and then she crawled in my lap and just sat there crying. So we spent recess sitting in the rocking chair crying.
I know God is good, but how do you explain that to a 6 year old?

I wish I knew. :( So heartbreaking. I am glad God gave her a teacher who will love her through it.
Hey Katie,
I read this when you first posted it today and have been thinking about it since. I don't know if there really is much you can say to the little girl that you already aren't saying in some way. She knows that she can be honest about her feelings with you and that you will be there for her when she is feeling most down. Most of all, she won't have to feel like no one is able to sympathize with her when she just can't quit thinking about her mom.
Katie, She is so Blessed to have you as her teacher. Even thought you can not bring her mom back you can give her the hugs and care that she needs while she is at school. Praying that God will give you the strength to just love her and care for her. Love, MOM
